SAE 841 material properties: what these cored bars are made of

SAE 841 oil-impregnated sintered bronze is a nominal 90% copper / 10% tin alloy, sintered to a final density of 6.4 to 6.8 g/cc and vacuum-impregnated with a high-grade, 100-viscosity, non-detergent rust and oxidation inhibited turbine oil, which is what makes a part in this material self-lubricating and maintenance-free in most applications. Symmco's bronze carries 24% oil by volume where the industry standard is 19%, and its minimum K-value of 30,000 sits above the 26,500 industry standard. The bronze is lead-free, Symmco specifies it as MPIF CT-1000-K26 and follows all MPIF standards, and when the standard oil's -10°F to 200°F operating range does not suit an application, multiple oil types are available, including special military-grade oils.
